Review: Epson PowerLite LCD Projector Brightens Classrooms

The PowerLite 1985WU offers vibrant colors under a variety of classroom lighting situations.

The Epson PowerLite 1985WU is a powerful, midsized LCD projector capable of 4800 lumens of white and color brightness, resulting in vibrant color displays even under bright ambient light.

With native resolution of 1920x1200 (WUXGA), the projector supports brilliant 1080p HD images at up to 300 feet. Its throw ratio range of 1.38 (widescreen) to 2.28 (telefocused) allows for mounting distances of six to 32 feet (or greater, depending on screen size).

Faculty will appreciate its vivid display and large projection capability as well as the ability to split the screen with up to four simultaneous video inputs. Miracast and Wireless Display (WiDi) technology allow anyone in a classroom to easily share content from their mobile device, tablet or PC.

Epson’s EasyMP Network Projection software makes it easier for faculty to connect the device and take advantage of more advanced features such as content sharing and screencasting with as many as 50 other devices. The included EasyMP Slide Converter software assists faculty in converting presentations to formats that can be run directly from USB media.

Connect It All

A wide variety of input and output options are supported, including a Component Video port, and two ports each for HDMI, USB and VGA. The 1985WU also includes audio and video output, network connectivity (wired, with an optional wireless module) for remote monitoring and content streaming, along with an RS-232 interface to integrate automated classroom infrastructure.

The PowerLite 1985WU has an easily accessible filter for routine maintenance and a nominal lamp life of 3,000 hours in normal operating mode (4,000 in powersaving mode). An immediate shutdown feature allows the projector to shut down safely without having to wait for the lamp to cool. The Epson Road Service Program provides two years of coverage, including free overnight replacement if anything breaks.
