Review: Spark Creativity in Every K–12 Classroom with the New Adobe Express for Education

A middle school teacher shares her favorite artificial intelligence upgrades to a popular design tool.

Technology has opened incredible doors for learning, and creativity tools such as Adobe Express for Education have followed suit. Formerly known as Adobe Spark, the updated Adobe Express is an all-in-one artificial intelligence (AI) content creation app that allows students to easily and quickly ideate, design and share creative projects to amplify their schoolwork.

They can use the app to design videos for core subjects, posters for classrooms and events, animated green screen backgrounds, website portfolios, and graphics for their social-emotional learning and mindfulness projects.

This user-friendly platform makes it easy for teachers to jump right in with their students, who can range from kindergarteners to high schoolers. Adobe Express for Education is completely free for all K–12 teachers and students, offering a treasure trove of tools to boost engagement and communication skills.

Adobe Express AI Tools Support Impressive Graphics

Adobe Express has always had an intuitive, colorful interface that appeals to all age groups, making it a versatile addition to any curriculum. Younger students can easily start projects with ready-made templates, while older students and educators can dive into advanced editing tools for detailed creative work, especially in video creation and animation.

The platform’s latest features integrate Firefly generative AI to make creativity a blast in the classroom. With the Generate Template feature and a few text prompts, students can whip up posters for book reports or design eye-catching after-school club flyers.

Students can also stoke their imaginations with tools that generate coloring pages featuring famous historical people or events to share and trade with friends. Plus, an integration with MagicSchool lets students and teachers add stunning, AI-generated images to their projects, making everything pop.

Adobe Express Video and Audio Features Bring Characters to Life

One of the most exciting new additions to Adobe Express is the Animate from Audio feature, which enables students to bring characters to life with their own voices.

Imagine creating a guitar-playing character that strums along to your tune or layering animated shapes over your photo to send a hilarious video message to your friends.

I check back often to see if new characters are available, and it feels like Christmas every time they update this feature.

My favorite upgrade from Adobe Spark includes a more advanced video track with powerful animations, a variety of music and creative transitions. It offers even more creative freedom, plus a wider variety of enhanced templates to help students personalize their project designs.

Adobe Express Promises Interactivity for Teachers and Safe AI Use

While this latest version of Adobe Express is already a game changer, Adobe promises to roll out even more teacher-friendly tools. I’m most excited to test out the interactive Assignments dashboard, which allows teachers to keep an eye on everyone’s progress in real-time and jump in with tips and encouragement.

Adobe vice president and general manager Mala Sharma said in a statement that these education-specific tools are intentional because “Adobe Express for Education is built by and with teachers, with AI that’s designed to be safe for the classroom.”

Adobe uses a strict data privacy approach and includes filters and protocols to limit its AI features for classroom environments. Administrators can further manage the tool's AI functions. Additionally, Adobe has created a responsible AI and media literacy curriculum for middle, high school and older students.

Sharing the Adobe Express platform with students is a joyful experience and a hit with educators as well, even after just one try. To me, the best part of the tool is that it unleashes imagination in everyone so that we can all be creative.
