Professor's Big Data DNA Research Brings Microsoft to Campus

A Virginia Tech professor is using the Microsoft Cloud and and an array of custom software to power his Big Data research into DNA sequencing.

Computer Science Professor Wu Feng's work drew the attention of Microsoft, who visited the campus in November to film a commercial, with Feng as the star, according to The Collegiate Times. In June, the company launched a new ad, titled "The cloud that is helping cure cancer." The ad quotes Feng and his work, which is shaving years off of research into DNA sequencing.
