Salesforce Releases New AI Tools for Higher Education

The cloud software developer has been leveraging its platform for student lifecycle management and released a batch of new solutions last month.

Customer relationship management vendor Salesforce has announced updates to an artificial intelligence–powered, cloud-based tool specifically for educational institutions that it states will “give students a clear path to graduation, translate coursework into resume-ready skills, and match students and alumni to mentors.”

The company’s popular CRM has been gaining traction with college and university officials as institutions grapple with the impending enrollment cliff and turn to student lifecycle management solutions to boost graduation and retention rates.

“Every institution wants to provide the best possible experiences for their students and staff,” writes Bala Subramanian, vice president and general manager of education at Salesforce, in describing the AI-driven enhancements. “This will free educators and staff to focus on improving student outcomes, like career-readiness, well-being and graduation rates.”

The Salesforce Education Cloud is adding several AI-powered tools as part of the update and will offer three new features tailored to improving student success rates. They are:

  • An intelligent degree-planning tool that will help students, instructors and advisers map out a path from enrollment to graduation and measure progress in real time
  • A skills generator that will give AI recommendations to faculty and staff to “identify market-relevant skills” students will need to enter the workforce
  • Einstein mentorship summaries that will help match students and alumni with potential mentors

Other updates to the Education Cloud are designed to help faculty and staff guide students toward graduation. They include:

  • A data cloud for education that will assist universities in connecting disparate data sources to consolidate individual student information in a single location
  • Einstein Copilot, an AI chatbot tailored to admissions and recruitment offices that can answer student questions at all hours
  • An intelligent question generator that will use AI to optimize student intake questionnaires and better direct students to relevant extracurricular activities, career advisers, study abroad programs and more

Some of the new features are already available to Salesforce customers; the remaining features will be “generally available” in October, according to the company.
