The Rise of the Higher Education Buffet [#Infographic]
The World Wide Web has become an all-you-can-eat buffet, of sorts, for anyone looking to gorge on knowledge and information.
OpenCourseWare (OCW), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS) and DIY Degrees are just a few of the educational alternatives to traditional education the Internet provides.
In their latest infographic, Online Universities shares places to find courses online.
Udemy boasts the most online courses, with 4,653. Udemy allows anyone to host a course, and also features courses from leading universities, such as Harvard and Stanford. Courses on the site range from free to $29.00.
Although the content is valuable, inexpensive and highly accessible, the infographic, points out the following issues that can arise with online education:
- Not all courses are accredited.
- Some courses may be of poor quality.
- Some students don’t do well with passively watching online courses.
- Students have little guidance or support and may not feel motivated.
