CITE 2025: 5 Must-Attend Sessions If Your District Uses Google Workspace for Education

CDW experts will be onsite at CITE 2025 to provide deep dives into Google Workspace for IT administrators.

With more than 150 million estimated student and teacher users, Google Workspace for Education is likely the most widely used work suite in K–12 education. Districts are drawn to the platform’s affordability and ease of use.

“We didn’t have to train any of our teachers,” A.J. Stich, founding principal of The Greater Dayton School, told EdTech.

But there’s another, less-discussed side of Google Workspace, and that’s the Google Admin Console.

This year’s CITE conference, presented by California IT in Education, runs Nov. 17-20, with the bulk of sessions taking place Tuesday, Nov. 18. For IT administrators who use the Google Admin Console, CDW will be onsite hosting a slew of sessions about how to optimize it. Here’s what to look out for if you’ll be in Sacramento for CITE 2025:

1. Tuning the Machine: Google Admin Best Practices

When: Nov.18, 2025, 10-10:45 a.m., PT

Where: B2

This one-hour session explores the Google Admin Console's critical features, from organizational units and user management to Gmail, Drive, Chat, Calendar and essential security settings. If you spend any amount of time using Google Admin Console — or expect to in the foreseeable future — don’t skip this one.

Participants will learn best practices for configuring services and users while avoiding common pitfalls, discover hidden features and advanced settings to enhance teaching and learning, and gain practical strategies for strengthening cybersecurity and protecting sensitive data.

2. A Secure Digital Campus: Essential Google Admin Security Practices

When: Nov. 18, 2025, 8-8:45 a.m., PT

Where: B2

During this security-centric session, CDW speakers will share actionable strategies that school administrators and IT professionals can use to enhance data security in their Google Workspace environments. The one-hour session will cover both free and upgraded security features baked into Google Workspace.

Participants will also learn how to configure organizational units for staff and students, implement security policies, and investigate and respond to incidents while meeting compliance and ethical obligations for protecting student privacy.

3. Gemini for K12: Secure AI Deployment and Google Workspace

When: Nov. 20, 2025, 8-8:45 a.m., PT

Where: B2

Google Gemini is a powerhouse for educators leveraging Google Workspace.

“If I’m trying to create differentiated groups from an existing lesson, I could ask Gemini, ‘Rewrite this lesson at varying levels,’” Jennie Magiera, Google’s global head of education impact, told EdTech. “I could even upload past student work to help me understand what specific needs they have to inform that differentiation.”

But from an IT admin perspective, securely deploying and managing Gemini requires new console settings and data protection best practices. This session will review how K–12 districts using Gemini can safeguard user data to comply with student privacy requirements. This includes configuring settings for secure access, data governance and usage monitoring.

Attendees will also get a live demonstration of Gemini Education in action and instruction on creating custom "Gems" to tailor AI capabilities for specific workflows.

4. Building Effective Data Protection Rules in the Google Admin Console

When: Nov. 20, 2025, 1-1:45 p.m., PT

Where: B2

Before shopping around for data loss prevention tools, it’s worth attending this session, as so much of what you’re trying to do may be achievable through Google’s native DLP capabilities.

This session goes beyond the basics of protecting sensitive information within Google Workspace environments. It will explore real-world use cases and actionable effective techniques to create, monitor and maintain robust DLP rules. Attendees will walk away with practical new skill sets for safeguarding confidential student data, preventing data leaks and strengthening overall security posture.

5. Google for Education Security Workshop

When: Nov. 20, 2025, 3-4:45 p.m., PT

Where: B2

CITE 2025 attendees who want to take their Google Admin Console security skills to the next level can attend a nearly two-hour workshop hosted by CDW. In addition to getting a deep dive into Google’s security features, participants will learn how to create and manage security policies for their school districts.

Key areas of focus include DPL, the alert center and restrictions around third-party app access with API controls. Attendees will also get hands-on with advanced security tools within Workspace for Education Standard and Plus, such as the security dashboard, security health and the investigation tool.
