Textbook Giant to Lower Costs
Pearson Education announced Jan. 17 that it would reduce the price of almost 2,000 e-book titles and 50 print textbook titles, Campus Technology reports. A recent Pearson survey found that the majority of students, teachers and administrators believe that digital courseware like e-books are integral to the future of higher education.
With a report citing increases of textbook costs by over 1,000 percent since the late 1970s, and a CampusBooks survey finding that 66 percent of students who don't by textbooks do so because of cost, afforability of course materials seems to be a key issue.
By the end of this month, Pearson says students could find savings of up to 50 percent on the most popular textbook titles.
