How Do College Students Use Twitter? [Infographic]

Twitter rules on college campuses.

Even if Facebook is still king, Twitter is hugely popular on campus. Smart colleges — like Harvard and DePaul — are taking advantage of the fact that young adults 18 to 24 are heavy social media users.

Perhaps the most interesting statistic in the infographic below is that 77 percent of college students use desktops or laptops rather than mobile devices for social networking. Surely this will change over the next few years with the proliferation of smartphones. According to Bright Side of News, 1 billion people will own a smartphone by 2015. A recent study by Test Kitchen suggests that more than half of surveyed college students already own smartphones. Considering that smartphone use and social media use are growing together, we expect that this infographic will look very different in a few years.
