Steer Clear of These Security Traps
Survey finds colleges not shoring up certain vulnerabilities.
Maintaining a strong defense against cyberthreats can feel like a task that never ends. Shore up one vulnerability, and hackers will kick in a new one faster than you can say “Risk!” Yet higher education institutions may not be doing all they can to keep their people and their assets safe. One survey found that fewer than half of the respondents had taken the following precautions against a security breach:
- Establish a written information security policy
- Establish mandatory security awareness training
- Increase the role of governance in IT security
- Inventory sensitive data in key systems
- Purchase cybersecurity insurance
- Create an information security officer position
