CoSN Awards Trusted Learning Environment Seal to Illinois District

Community High School District 99 earns the Consortium for School Networking’s TLE Seal for its dedication to protecting student data.

Community High School District 99 has earned the Consortium for School Networking’s Trusted Learning Environment Seal, making it the first Illinois school district to receive the award. Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District in Texas received the honor the month before.

“Having spent the last five years focusing intently on improving the district’s information security posture, the TLE Seal was the ideal next step to deeply assess how we were doing, improve where needed and publicly celebrate our successes,” said Rod Russeau, Community High School District 99’s director of technology and information services, in a release.

Russeau, who spoke in a session on cybersecurity at this year’s CoSN conference, also noted the relationships built with other districts and organizations as District 99 worked toward the seal.

More than 50 school systems across the country have earned the CoSN TLE Seal. It is presented to districts that demonstrate transparency and stringent student data privacy protections. District leaders must show that they continuously strive to improve data privacy to maintain the award, and schools are re-evaluated every two years.
