Campus Networks Require Multifaceted, Modern Cybersecurity

Cybercriminals are smarter than ever, and higher ed institutions need cybersecurity tools and tactics that can keep up.

Higher ed cybersecurity experts already know to expect the worst of cybercriminals, but these days, the “worst” is a moving target.

According to Symantec’s 2016 Internet Security Threat Report, the number of reported zero-day vulnerabilities more than doubled from 2014 to 2015. And ransomware — which encrypts an institution’s files until hackers receive a hefty ransom payment — increased 35 percent in 2015.

Colleges and universities cannot rely on traditional cybersecurity tools to combat these growing risks. They need a web of next-generation tools and technologies working together to safeguard data.
